“Play the Knave”
Basement Gallery, Feb. 26 Deadline
The Basement Gallery is hosting “Play the Knave” this Thursday February 23rd, 2017.
Play the Knave is a motion capture video game that allows players to design and perform scenes from Shakespeare’s plays. The game engages users in dramatic production, helping them understand and enjoy a Shakespeare play through the act of staging it. Users can customize their scene ( selecting script, avatars, and theater space) and perform it karaoke-style, by reading the lines on screen. This is no ordinary karaoke experience, however.
A Kinect motion-capture camera picks up the players’ bodily
gestures,
mapping them unto the screen’s 3D avatar that mirrors the users’
gestures
in real time. The concept, content and design for *Play the Knave
*are the
result of an interdisciplinary collaboration involving faculty
members,
graduates and undergraduates at the UC Davis Modlab. For more
information about the game, please visit https://playtheknave.org or
