Lisa Rybovich Crallé makes Shrem Opening Ribbon

The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art will open to the public on Sunday, Nov. 13 featuring a special exhibition of the work of first-generation faculty, but also feature exhibitions of contemporary artists who exemplify the interactive and art-making UC Davis tradition.

Continuing in that tradition, the Manetti Shrem Museum has commissioned for its Grand Opening celebration Lisa Rybovich Crallé (MFA 2011) to create a 1,500 foot long site-specific sculpture that will loop around the museum’s exterior and the surrounding area during the week leading up to the museum’s opening. The sculpture is composed of hundreds of individual fabric “links” that will be hand painted by Lisa in collaboration with the greater Davis community during a series of free workshops in Davis, Sacramento and the Napa Valley. The opening weekend will also include activities, performances, and projects from artists based around Northern California, and a special tribute will be held for Roland Petersen, and Wayne Thiebaud, who will be turning 96 on November 15th.

The Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening will take place Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 12 pm.
